Abstract:
Works on business ecosystems stress the necessary focus on actors and their relationships to understand how these complex inter-organizational arrangements are build. Thus, our study investigates the impacts of multiple coopetitive relations on the health of an emerging ecosystem. Through the study of the ecosystem of mobile contactless services, we demonstrate that vertical coopetition, coupled with strong role conflicts between prominent actors negatively affects the health and may lead to the loss of the ecosystem. However, an increasing complexity based on coopetitions across industries helps role conflicts resolution.
