L’émergence de la valeur d’usage et l’« agentivité » des objets matériels

Abstract:
This paper looks at the emergence process of use value. First we draw the distinction between the exchange value of objects and their value in use. Then we show that use value emerges from the interactive relationships between the objects? action possibilities and the subjects? competence. Any object is regarded as a mediator between the natural world and the subjects? sensitivity. From that point of view it is endowed with an agency. It can ?make something happen?, it can frame subjects? action and, by doing so, it can shape subjects. Some consequences of this perspective on the job of designers are considered.
