Abstract:
Radical innovations can disturb established firms in mature industries that often face structural limitations to generate themselves such innovations. Drawing on an experimentation conducted in the petroleum company Technip, this article explores the possibility to use an enterprise social network to ease the fuzzy front-end of radical innovation. The results show that the properties of enterprise social networks can ease knowledge sharing and the establishment of new relations, but do not substitute to the need of intermediation and of an organizational context favorable to radical innovation.
