Abstract:
In view of the aging population, jobs related to home care assistance for the elderly are considered as vast opportunities for employment. However, these jobs suffer from a lack of prestige affecting their attractiveness and employee retention. Based on the dirty work literature, this study propose to further understand the strategies used by home care workers to cope with the identity threat coming from their job, in order to better address how one could counter perceptions of professional devalorization. By doing so, we provide organizations with practical implications in order to help home care aids to make sense of their job. These implications are related to task flexibility, training and employees? on boarding.
