Abstract: To help reduce tensions in the workplace, designing spaces for discussion has been recommended by major authors. We continue these researches with the assumption that the concept of role tensions might help develop these spaces in organizations, both from theoretical and operating points of view. We suggest that discussion will be fostered through the introduction of a common language focused on real work. We conduct an intervention research at Enedis, a French company trying to help its managers to speak of work in a different way. Among other elements, our results show that when put in simple words, role tensions act as a media that helps build a ?middle ground? among participants of the designed space and this design helps (re) build work collectives.
