Abstract:
This article critically examines the place given to institutions for the necessary change leading to a sustainable capitalism. Approaches promoting a new mode of consumption and multiactor partnerships are both based on a change process essentially depending on individual behaviours. We put the stress on the weaknesses of these approaches in the way they deal with institutional framework and we analyse the potential role of public actors in the transition to a respectful consumption system of the environment.
