Abstract:
This article offers a sociology of the randomized controlled trials in development economics. After an historical introduction, the case of an evaluation implemented by the World Bank in Bangladesh is presented. Then, the analysis of the RCT is developed on three different aspects: their institutional side, their theoretical frame, and their focus on private behaviours of agents. These elements lead to discuss that RCT may announce the opening of a new era of governmentality.
