Abstract:
There is no doubt that football has today an economic dimension. The paper shows that it is not an inevitable intrusion of financial forces that would undermine the sport. The merchant investments in the football remain on the contrary liable for the specific logic of this sport. Far from being reducible to an economic interpretation, European football field is only intelligible if one reveals the symbolic struggles and social issues that cross and explain the prevalence of sports specificity in its structure.
