Abstract:
In France, the ?extended producer responsibility? (EPR) tool requires producers of certain products to pay a financial fee for the management of waste issued from these products. While the EPR is based on a budgetary mechanism and aims at transferring the costs of waste recovery, some adjustments aim at reinforcing its incentive power and redirecting the instrument toward objectives that go beyond strict waste management. This article examines the role of economic discourse in the advent of these adjustments.
