RESPONSABILITÉ SOCIALE VERSUS PERFORMANCES SOCIALES EN MICROFINANCE

Jean-Michel Servet

Revue Tiers-Monde, 2009, vol. n° 197, issue 1, 55-70

Abstract: An increasing number of works on microfinance mention the social responsibility of private, public or mixed organizations which deliver microfinance services. Their social responsibility has to be understood as a supply of financial services which actually and efficiently comply with the needs of the different classes of the population. Their costs have to be compatible with the capacity of the population to pay for them. There is not only a social responsibility of the organization and program for their customers and their users, but also for the others actors of the microfinance sector they enter into competition with or they work with. The social responsibility is in the result but also in the process of inclusion and exclusion thanks to the organizations which produce the financial services and distribute them to the customers and users.
