La conservation de la biodiversité par les outils de priorisation. Entre souci d'efficacité écologique et marchandisation

Johan Milian and Estienne Rodary

Revue Tiers-Monde, 2010, vol. n° 202, issue 2, 33-56

Abstract: The global management of protected areas has recently reached a double threshold, in the progression of protected areas and in the latest development of monitoring tools. The future of conservation policies thus faces new objectives, in which global conservation NGOs play a central role by setting the methods that prioritize areas to be protected. The article shows that these methods are framed by institutional issues rather than purely conservation factors, that they are based on competing rather than complementary approaches, and that they can undermine future biodiversity conservation policies.
