Parler politique au sein des chaînes coptes. Ouverture ou repli identitaire ?

Abstract:
This paper studies how Coptic satellite channels, which are a priori devoted to religious messages, have introduced discussions about politics into their programming. It questions the stakes of such an editorial decision given the twofold role which these channels are meant to play. The first one is linked to asserting the identity of the Coptic community, a community which has long been accused of being withdrawn, while the second one is linked to the national Egyptian level. The context for the creation of two Christian channels in Egypt, CTV and MESat, is taken as a starting point to examine their political programs, as well as the implications of the post-revolutionary situation for the evolution of media and political discussions on the air.
