Internationalisation et transformation du système éducatif en situation de post-conflit. Le cas de la Côte d'Ivoire

Anne-Charlotte Triplet

Revue Tiers-Monde, 2015, vol. N° 223, issue 3, 29-48

Abstract: This article uses the case of Ivory Coast as a starting point to present some considerations regarding the influence of international education norms in an education system which is recovering from a series of crises. After a historical overview of the internationalization of the system, the study focuses on the post-conflict era. The results are based on a literature review, as well as on empirical data, which draws on interviews, questionnaires and workshops organized with the school system's technical and financial partners between April 2012 and October 2013 in Abidjan, and in central and western Ivory Coast. The article shows that the presence of international organizations legitimizes the current government's actions. As a result, international aid is frequently sought out and highly valued. The education system has been rebuilt, developed and transformed under the influence of international organizations. The public authorities do not perceive this as a form of interference, and nor do the parents, teachers, school children, high-school students, and university students, as a consequence of the singular situation in which the State and the civil society are in this post-conflict era.
