L’éducation aux Comores. Un modèle français en phase de lente hybridation

Philippe Lacoste and Lionel Leignel

Revue Tiers-Monde, 2016, vol. N° 226-227, issue 2, 197-221

Abstract: To this day, the French model is the main inspiration for the organization of public education in the Comoros. The performance of Comoran education has improved overall, but it is still far from meeting international standards. The debates over the relationship between public pre-school education and religious schools, the contribution of the recently created University of Comoros to national development, and the issue of the language which should be favored remain lively. They have led to fragile political compromises resulting in the gradual emergence of a hybrid system.
