De Redeyef à Nantes: mobilisation sociale et migration internationale

Abstract:
Social mobilization and international migration can be tightly linked through activist practices, as shown by the case of Redeyef, in the mining area of Gafsa (Tunisia). The social movement of 2008, calling for work and dignity, and its repression by the Tunisian State helped to reactivate the migration network towards Nantes (France), which has been the main place of settlement for migrants from Redeyef since the 1970s. The Tunisians who were already there have mobilized and created with various organizations an activist group supporting social struggles in Tunisia and illegal Tunisian immigrants in Nantes. These intertwined mobilizations, both within and outside Tunisia, highlight a process of internationalization of protest through migration.
