La qualité au guichet: négocier le travail peu qualifié à Pôle emploi
Hadrien Clouet
Travail et Emploi, 2018, vol. n° 155-156, issue 3, 65-92
Abstract:
?The caseworkers of ? ?Pôle emploi? ? (the French public employment agency)? ?are tasked with fulfilling two mandates: controlling jobseekers and registering job offers and demands, in order to match unemployed people with vacant jobs. This frequently leads to discuss and negotiate the parameters of both the employment offers and the jobseekers? profiles. Based on a seven-month long ethnographic survey within two employment agencies in Greater Paris, the author shows how jobseekers and caseworkers negotiate the qualification of work, employment and individuals through face-to-face interactions. Low and high qualifications are the products of caseworkers? activity and depend on a system of constraints that actually shapes their activity. Thus, they directly contribute to regulate the hierarchy of qualifications that plays a key role on the employment market.?
