‪L’intérim de masse comme vecteur de disqualification professionnelle‪. Le cas des emplois ouvriers de la logistique

Lucas Tranchant

Travail et Emploi, 2018, vol. n° 155-156, issue 3, 115-140

Abstract: ?The spread of temporary work is closely linked with the reorganization of unskilled work. This paper relies on an ethnography of warehouse workers where unskilled temporary employment is widespread. It unfolds three sides of the process of professional disqualification, respectively related to status, organizational and market factors. Temporary work provides great flexibility which is used by logistics subcontractors as a way to transfer their economic uncertainty to their low-skilled workers. In those warehouses, temporary staffing and work versatility lead to a double process of segmentation of workforce and of global unskilling. Staffing agencies also play a major role in disqualification through the standardization of staffing and competition between workers. Market mechanisms are therefore at the core of the matching process between workers and unskilled jobs.?
