Des usages managériaux de la science ? Le devenir en entreprise des modèles de mesure des risques psychosociaux au travail

Abstract: In addition to the major national statistical surveys and epidemiological studies that have included “psychosocial risks” (PSR) in their arsenal for monitoring workers’ health, measurement devices have been set up in French companies over the last fifteen years. Do they promote better prevention or, paradoxically, do they contribute to forms of “ignorance” and “inaction”? A study of the successive implementation of various measurement devices in a major banking company that has negotiated collective agreements on the quality of working life reveals, on the one hand, that the measurement tools are being redesigned by both consultants and human resources managers; on the other hand, that these managerial uses are undergoing a major shift, from the initial logic of identifying health risk factors to assessing the “commitment” of employees. These uses are as much an attempt to translate health and safety issues into a language that is likely to motivate management to act, as they are a form of “managerialization of law” to protect the company from legal risks.
