Abstract:
In this paper I have approached issues related to the need for leadership in the public sector, which is considered to be one of the most important elements contributing to the success or failure of organisations and hence, to the sustainable development of organisations in the public sector. Leadership can be seen as a system, as a process, as a method or as a cultural state that is based on a cultural process of transformation, starting with each and every person within the organisation, continuing with the team and the organisation and, finally, with the transformation of the entire society. The fundamental objective of the paper was to highlight the essence of the leadership concept in this field and to capture the relationship between sustainable leadership and sustainable development of the organisations. Based on the research and analysis of the specialized literature in studies, articles, books, I have developed a model of sustainable leadership that can contribute to transformational change, thus, responding to the specific challenges of the public sector and also, to the global changes that have become critical.
