CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS FOR INSTITUTIONAL ACADEMIC WEBSITES. THE FEAA TIMISOARA EXPERIENCE

Romeo Margea

Annals - Economy Series, 2017, vol. 2, 43-51

Abstract: Open Source Content Management Systems represent a n affordable and viable option for building institutional academic websites. We presented a short literature review as argumentation for choosing Joomla! platform for a faculty website development. Then, we provided an overview over this widespread adopted platform by researching which academic websites from Romania implemented this popular, flexible, versatile and secure content management system. Next sections of this paper include the last five-years long experience in creating, maintaining and extending the website of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEAA) within the West University of Timisoara (WUT). We aimed to share the knowledge acquired in time, the challenges we had to face and how we adapted to cope with them, by insisting mainly on the extensions which proved very useful in exploiting the site over time.
