Abstract: The discovery of similarities between countries in relation to certain activity fields is an interesting approach from the perspective of a deeper understanding of our world, with practical consequences in terms of setting more effective differentiated policy. With the development of effective techniques of discovery, analysis and validation of a structure of clusters in a set of objects, the classification of a group of countries in relation to the values of a group of indicators is an approach with a higher degree of objectivity. This paper aims to perform a cluster analysis for the EU member countries from the perspective of the use of renewable energy reflected by the values of three specific indicators. The result of the analysis is to discover and to validate a structure of clusters and to specify the indicators which statistically significantly differentiate the obtained clusters.
