Abstract:
Romania plays an important role in the cereals sector in the context of EU and also at the international level. In 2023, Romania was on the 11th place regarding the export of raw cereals globaly, the exports with cereals worthed 4,460,829 thousand dollars. In the same year Romania was on the 63th place regarding the imports of cereals, the imports wothed 758,292 thousand dollars. The purpose of this study is to highlight the main dynamics regarding the Romania’s position in the international trade with cereals in the period 2019-2023 and to underline the importance of this country on the analysed sector especially after the recent crisis Romania passed through. For this study, the data available on International Trade Centre were used. Globally, in 2023 the first 5 exporting countries of cereals were United States of America, Brasil, Australia, Russian Federation and India, while the first 5 importing countries were China, Mexico, Japan, Spain and Egypt. The main imported products from the category of cereals are: wheat and meslin, maize or corn and rice, being the same in case of the most exported products in the analysed category. The main destionation of Romania’s exports with cereals are Spain, Republic of Korea, Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, while the main sources for Romania’s imports are: Ukraine, Hungary, Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria, France.
