Abstract:
This paper analyses the absence of convergence between environmental principles and practices in firm behavior at Rio Piracicaba Region. We estimate the environmental stress caused by four major steel and pulp industrial plants using water pollution modeling and building environmental stress indicators based on energy and water consumption data. Their environmental principles are investigated based on field research and discourse analyses. Concerning joint utilization of water resources at the Piracicaba Basin, the paper models the impact of the new Brazilian water resources legislation on the behavior of these four industrial plants.
