Abstract: The present study is a component of the priority project entitled "Prospective analysis of development factors affecting the competitiveness in transition economies" developed under the CERES program. The study aims to elaborate an exhaustive methodology for evaluating the influence of main factors on industrial competitiveness of the countries in transition with the goal of providing a standard of performance that offers a base for analogy between countries and with the goal of identifying the leverage points for the optimization of the efforts -effects ratio. Taking into account the fact that in Romania there isn't any official methodology on this matter, we consider the study proposed within the framework of the CERES Program to be one of relevant importance; at the same time, the study offers a response to the need of finding ways to improve the competitiveness of the Romanian industry.
