Abstract:
This document describes the methodological changes that Central Bank of Chile has introduced in foreign direct investment statistics from March 2012. The modifications are associated with new recommendations from the Balance of Payments Manual of the IMF and the fourth edition of the OECD’s Benchmark Definition of Foreign Direct Investment, and covers presentation changes, adjustments and reclassifications for the treatment of certain transactions. In particular, the document details the methodologies that lead to the development of figures with the active / passive principle and the directional principle. It also explains the conceptual and construction differences between both, presenting the results of their application for a reference year.
