Flujos de inversión de cartera hacia economías emergentes:Caracterización de eventos de turbulencia

Economic Statistics Series from Central Bank of Chile
Abstract:
This paper describes the dynamics of capital inflows (equity and bonds) to emerging market economies, particularly Chile, during episodes of international financial turbulence (specifically during the Asian and Russian crises, and the financial turbulence of May-June 2006). Monthly data reported by the Emerging Portfolio Fund Research is employed, except for Chile, for which data is taken from the capital account of the Central Bank of Chile. Seemingly, in the Asian and Russian crises bond inflows were more affected than equity inflows, while during the May-June 2006 episode, the opposite was observed. Chilean inflows were relatively immune during these turbulence episodes.
