Economic Statistics Series from Central Bank of Chile

Abstract: This paper presents the main concepts relating to lending statistics published by the Central Bank of Chile (CBC), intended to facilitate its understanding and analysis by the general public. This, within a context of growing market’s need to understand and rely on a timely, comprehensive monitoring of the credit market, that yields an indicator of the economy’s level of indebtedness and financial development. In Chile, the CBC compiles and disseminates information on the credit operations performed by the banks with third parties. The statistics are prepared with information reported by the banks and the Superintendence of Banks and Financial Institutions (SBIF). The paper also addresses affinities and differences between these statistics and the ones published by the Superintendence of Banks and Financial Institutions (SBIF).
