Abstract:
The aim of this article is to set out the main aspects of the development experienced by non-profit-making social services organisations to become organisations that are structured and managed in a more professional and businesslike manner. The authors include in the concept of “social company” organisations that, regardless of their legal nature, combine social purpose and the non-profit principle with new strategies of professionalization and businesslike management. Furthermore, the new challenges that have to be faced by “social companies”, managing and providing social services are also examined here. For this reason, some of the results that were obtained in Spain from the Okapi research project are also included here.
