No 10459, Documentos de Trabajo Sobre Economía Regional y Urbana from Banco de la República, Economía Regional

Abstract: The Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina has always been considered a Colombian region with a comparatively low incidence of violence despite the fact that drug trafficking has permeated everyday life. However, recently the island of San Andres experienced a significant increase in violence levels, fact that can be associated with the incursion of criminal gangs coming from the Colombian mainland. Said gangs maintain disputes and confrontations related to the control of illegal drugs trade.
