Pereira: contexto actual y perspectivas

Abstract: Pereira atraviesa por un momento decisivo para el futuro de su población. Aunque la economía de la ciudad y la de Risaralda han venido creciendo, durante los últimos anos lo han hecho más lentamente que el resto del país. Dentro de las mayores dificultades que enfrenta la ciudad están el alto desempleo, el aumento de la pobreza y la desigualdad y la limitada dotación de espacio público planificado. Como parte de las oportunidades y retos de las autoridades locales se puede mencionar al sector de infraestructura y el de turismo. El primero debe contribuir a través del aumento de la cobertura de los servicios básicos para toda la población y la construcción de vivienda acompanada de una mayor dotación de espacio público efectivo y planificado. El segundo a través de un mejor aprovechamiento de las características geográficas, climáticas y riqueza medioambiental. Todo esto contribuirá a mejorar la dinámica económica de la ciudad, reducir el desempleo y aumentar la calidad de vida de la población.****** ABSTACT: Pereira is currently going through a turning point for the future of its population. Although its economy and the one of Risaralda have been growing, it has been slower than the national average. Among the major difficulties faced by the city are: high unemployment rates, the recent increase of poverty and inequality, and the poor provision of planned public space. As part of the challenges and opportunities for the city to consider in the near future are infrastructure and tourism. The former sector is expected to contribute by increasing the basic services’ coverage and by building new housing together with the supply of proper and planned public space for the whole community. The task for the tourist sector is making a better utilization of the environmental resources, such as location, climate and wealth of wildlife. All these will help the economy to improve the economic indicators as well as reducing the unemployment and increasing the population quality of life.
