Discriminación étnica e ingresos en la Isla de San Andrés, Colombia

Abstract: Resumen: A partir de un análisis de características observables, este documento busca determinar la posible existencia de una brecha en los ingresos entre la población raizal y no raizal en San Andrés Isla. Para ello, se utilizan los datos obtenidos de la encuesta SISBEN II del ano 2004, elaborada porel Departamento Nacional de Planeación (DNP). La estrategia metodológica consiste en estimarregresiones por cuantiles, con el objeto de observar si existen diferencias en la remuneración alo largo de la distribución del ingreso. Los resultados sugieren que el ser raizal está asociado demanera negativa con los ingresos de aquellos que se encuentran en la parte baja de la distribución.Esta condición desaparece a medida que aumentan los ingresos, convirtiéndose en positiva en losniveles más altos de la distribución.Abstract: Etnic discrimination and income in San Andrés Island, Colombia:This document examines, bases on the analysis of observable characteristics, if an income gap exists between the raizal population and non raizal population of San Andres Island. For this purpose, the information of the SISBEN II survey for the year 2004, compelled by the National Planning Department (DNP, Spanish acronym) is used. The methodological strategy uses quantile regressions to determine the existence of pay gaps throughout the distribution of income. The results suggest that being raizal has a negative impact on income for the lower quantiles. However, this difference vanishes as income increases, becoming positive at higher levels.
