Abstract:
This document seeks to characterize the relationship between economic growth and the role played by institutions in an economy, since they determine the incentives and limitations of economic actors, and shape economic outcomes. For this purpose, a review of current theories or conceptions of economic development will be carried out, which include or depart from an institutionalist and neo-institutionalist vision, dealing with the ontology of institutions, governance, corruption as a factor that limits economic growth, and the introduction of the distribution of land ownership as a prelude to equitable development. Also, the document is heavily supported by publications by Douglass North, Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson.
