Abstract:
Cost-effectiveness of plasmapheresis prior to open thymectomy vs. open thymectomy alone is assessed by means of a Markov model. The perspective is that of the payer, including all direct costs. Data on effectiveness and complication risks were obtained from the literature. Deterministic and probabilistic analyses were performed. The threshold was the per capita GDP per LYG and a 3% discount was applied. Thymectomy is cost-effective but the results are not robust. Adding plasmapheresis becomes cost-effective for a threshold higher than Col $23.276.045 (more than twice the per capita GDP), when no discount is applied, and in 42% of the simulations.
