El conflicto entre elección social, valores individuales y equilibrio de mercado

Abstract: El objetivo de este artículo es esbozar de manera sucinta algunas ideas en torno a la teoría de la elección social de Kenneth Arrow contenidas en cinco acápites. Primeramente se abordan algunas cuestiones relacionadas con la agregación de preferencias individuales en una función de bienestar social; el siguiente apartado analiza la naturaleza de la escogencia poniendo de relieve una dimensión axiológica en la teoría neoclásica (los valores juegan un papel central en el proceso de elección); después abordamos el funcionamiento del mercado y sus límites para resolver el conflicto entre la elección individual y social; en el cuarto apartado se plantean ciertas implicaciones teóricas para la macroeconomía moderna y finalmente se enuncian algunos comentarios sobre el pensamiento de Arrow. ****** The objective of this paper is to outline succinctly some ideas on Kenneth Arrow’s social choice theory divided into five sections. First, some issues related to the aggregation of individual preferences in a social welfare function are addressed, the following section analyse the nature of choice highlighting an axiological dimension in neoclassical theory (values play a main role in the choice process). Then we addressed the market’s functioning and its limits to solve the conflict between individual and social choice. In the fourth section, certain theoretical implications for modern macroeconomics are raised, and finally some comments on Arrow’s thought are mentioned.
