Abstract:
This paper investigates whether export spillovers influence the export behavior of French manufacturers.I use a database containing export flows by firm and importing country between 1986 and1992. The decision to start exporting to a country is estimated using a Logit model, controlling forspecific characteristics of firms, places, and countries. The identification of export spillovers allowsthe effect to be industry and destination specific, and the spillovers to be computed at a very disaggregatedgeographical level. Results show evidence that the pool of local exporters affect positivelythe decision to start exporting to a country. These effects are clearly destination-specific, and appearmostly within industries than with overall exporting activity.
