Management of a pressure ulcer in a patient with reduced mobility: A case study

Abstract: This case study evaluates the effectiveness of a nursing approach based on Orem's Self-Care Model in the management of a pressure ulcer in a patient with reduced mobility. The literature review highlights the importance of self-care approaches in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers. The study used a qualitative approach, including the review of medical records, observations, and interviews. The results show that the care plan, which included preventive measures and education for the patient and their family, led to a favorable evolution of the ulcer. The self-care approach proved to be effective, fostering the active participation of the patient. In conclusion, this case study highlights the benefits of Orem's Self-Care Model in the management of pressure ulcers. Its implementation in clinical practice and further research in diverse contexts are recommended.
