Knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding the prevention of human papillomavirus in school students, Pereira-Colombia

Abstract:
Objective: To establish the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices about the Human Papilloma Virus infection among adolescents from Educational Institutions of the Municipality of Pereira, in the year 2021. methods: Quantitative, observational and descriptive study. Students are included in an age range between 13 to 20 years old, selected through a convenience test. The information was collected through a questionnaire that sought to identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding the prevention of Human Papillomavirus in adolescents. Results: 192 high school students from the Municipality of Pereira, Colombia, with an average age of 15.2 years, were analyzed. The students had no knowledge about the Human Papilloma Virus and some of its characteristics, about 70.3% did not know the definition of the disease. A large percentage of the respondents did not identify the risk factors or the protective factors against the prevention of Human Papillomavirus infection. Conclusions: The school population has a low level of knowledge about the Human Papilloma Virus infection, young people do not know the definition of the Human Papilloma Virus, nor do they state why the disease occurs.
