Abstract:
The present essay examines the personal and technical competencies of psychologists who practice psychotherapy, exploring both their training and their personal experiences in mental health. The review focuses on how therapists; own psychological issues may impact the therapeutic process, as well as the relationship between their mental well-being and the effectiveness of psychotherapy. Finally, it is suggested that, although there is no ideal psychotherapist profile, those who achieve a balance between theoretical knowledge, practical clinical experience, continuous updates on research advances, and personal psychotherapy to address their own psychological conflicts and manage countertransference tend to foster significant improvements in interventions. This combination of factors contributes to greater patient adherence to treatments, thereby optimizing treatment outcomes.
