Between being a woman and being myself: the dilemma of the female subject

Abstract: This essay presents reflections on the relationship between women's identity and the social construction of their being, from the concept of gender, in a context where multiple narratives coexist. In this approach, the perspectives of Judith Butler and Luce Irigaray were considered, authors who have underlined the interaction between the construct of gender and social constructions and incorporating Latin American feminism into the discussion through Rita Segato, seeking meeting points, as recognition of our local identity. In this reflective exercise, we try to understand how social and cultural constructions influence the experience of being a woman, taking postmodernity as an epistemic matrix. This position is assumed from the critique and questioning of tradition, rational masculine science, linear history and the power of reason. Within the framework of the analysis, the ideas of Foucault and Lyotard shine through; The first because it provides a framework to understand how women have been part of discourses that shape their identities based on their analysis of power and knowledge. For his part, Jean-François Lyotard's ideas show his skepticism towards metanarratives that have historically marginalized female narratives and, from relativism, to understand the "female subject" beyond conventional archetypes or gender stereotypes. Finally, it invites us to question the dichotomies that have classically defined the female experience, paving the way for a reimagined identity that restores the meaning of being a woman and its essence with temporal and spatial location.
