Abstract:
Work-life balance (WLB) has become a critical concern in the study of gender and household dynamic. Female-household heads (FHH) represent a unique context where women simultaneously shoulder economic and caregiving responsibilities, intensifying the challenge of balancing paid and unpaid work. A review of existing research indicates that female-household heads (FHH) are more vulnerable to poverty, resource limitations and reduced opportunities for dependents, which collectively exacerbate work-life balance (WLB) concerns. The literature highlights gaps in policy support, workplace flexibility and community-based interventions. This review contributes by synthesizing key findings, outlining practical implications for gender-sensitive policy and workplace reforms and identifying future research directions on the lived realities of work-life balance (WLB) in female-household heads (FHH).
