Abstract: Initially limited to French West Africa and Togo, the status of the Dakar School of Medicine was modified by the decree of 14 August 1944, which followed the Brazzaville Conference, to make it the interfederal medical educational institution. The new institution now sees its recruitment base expanded. In addition to the students who regularly entered the school, there are also students from the Ayos Instruction Center in Cameroon and the Edouard Renard Normal School in Brazzaville in the French Congo. The ambition of the colonial authorities was to instruct African practitioners acquired in Western medicine to support European personnel in the fight against the scourges that slowed population growth. From 1948, colonial higher education began to be ensured with the institution, in 1950, of the Institute of Advanced Studies under the benevolent supervision of the universities of Bordeaux and Paris and the disappearance of the medical student section of the Interfederal School of Dakar.
