Abstract:
The objective of this work is to analyze the contribution of human capital to the dynamics of economic growth in a sample of the MENA region. The analysis is carried out using panel data econometrics over the period 1980-2018. The results show a non-significant effect of the human capital variable on economic growth, unlike physical capital which contributes strongly and significantly to the dynamics of wealth formation. This result is explained, in addition to the socio-economic and even political obstacles in certain countries that prevent the effective use of human capital in economic activity, by the rentier structure of most of the economies in the region. Indeed, the productive apparatus of these countries is generally rigid and poorly equipped with advanced technologies, which reduces the demand for skilled labor and prevents its effective integration into production processes.
