Abstract: The main objective of this article is to reveal the role and importance of the EU Single Market (SM) and to highlight the main factors that determine its performance as an instrument to boost European integration. There is no doubt that the EU SM has contributed to the cohesion and integration of EU economies and has had a significant impact on the industrial sector of EU economies. The problem is to define to what extent the SM contributes to the strengthening of the economic fabric. The integration of Romania and Bulgaria into the EU is closely linked to the inclusion of these countries in the SM and also of their industrial base. In the first part, the importance of the SM and its importance in strengthening economic and commercial integration are revealed. In a second part, the particularities of the economic and political development of Bulgaria and Romania are highlighted and the extent to which these countries have succeeded in their economic convergence, being also part of the SM.
