The university efficiency in the international university ratings

Abstract: Background. Different states’ educational models often become a source for comprehensive analysis and dialogue with the aim of attracting first‑rank educational technologies inside the recipient country. The measurement of university activity and the support of educational initiatives are implemented through international university rankings. Purpose. To examine the generally recognized international ratings THE and QS, which influence public opinion in the field of higher education. Materials and methods. The research material comprises the international university ratings THE and QS. The methods include comprehensive analysis, synthesis, and summarizing. Results. The importance of science and universities as a basis for countries’ integration into international alliances is extremely significant for expanding international collaboration, increasing scientists’ potential, attracting investments, and creating progressive national universities — all of which directly contribute to a positive country’s image. According to research in state strategy, countries now compete not only for large territory and resources but also for better international reputation, quality of education, science, and technologies. Universities’ influence stems from their participation in international innovative projects led by leading scientists. University effectiveness is assessed in various rating systems, including subject ratings across different fields of science, which highlight leading universities. Conclusion. International rankings allow for a structured study of university effectiveness; it is proven that a high ranking position contributes to a positive country’s image. Practical importance. The results can be used by specialists in the analysis of the state educational system and in assessing the capacity of Russian universities. They also help attract academic expertise through activity analysis and provide opportunities for students and specialists to use rating results in practice when choosing a country for studying and living.
