Post-pandemic Architectural Design: A Review of Global Adaptations in Public Buildings

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically reshaped the way public buildings are designed and used, forcing architects and urban planners to rethink existing architectural norms. This review explores the global adaptations in public building design in response to the pandemic, focusing on key changes in spatial organization, health and safety protocols, and the integration of smart technologies. Drawing from case studies across North America, Europe, and Asia, the paper highlights the importance of flexibility, modularity, and sustainability in post-pandemic architectural solutions. It also examines the emerging role of advanced technologies such as AI, automation, and data-driven design in enhancing the user experience and ensuring safety. The review concludes with a discussion on the long-term implications for future architectural practice and identifies gaps in current research, suggesting areas for further exploration in the evolving field of post-pandemic architecture.
