mHealth in health systems: barriers to implementation

Auza Santiváñez, Carías Díaz, Vedia Cruz, Robles Nina, Sánchez Escalante and Apaza Huanca

Health Leadership and Quality of Life, 2022, vol. 1, 7

Abstract: The implementation of mobile health or mHealth in health systems is subject to a number of challenges that are the subject of analysis by the scientific community. In this review, aspects such as interoperability with existing systems, the need for policies and regulatory frameworks, and adaptation to different local and national realities are discussed. The main barriers focus on the acceptability of this mode of care, scaling and sustainability, technological and knowledge barriers, and integration with existing systems. The article highlights the importance of overcoming these barriers to take advantage of the potential of mHealth in improving people's health and well-being. These limitations must be addressed so that mHealth does not represent a gap, instead of an alternative in equitable access to health services
