Abstract: Nowadays, talking about aesthetic restorations means talking about metal-free ceramics. The changes and contributions in this field in recent years have been so important and revolutionary that there are currently a multitude of ceramic systems. All of them seek a balance between aesthetic, biological, mechanical and functional factors. However, there are considerable differences between them. Therefore, to select the most appropriate ceramic in each case, it is necessary to know the main characteristics of these materials and their manufacturing techniques. This choice should not be delegated to the laboratory technician, but should be the responsibility of the dentist, because he is the one who knows and controls the variables that determine the long-term success of the restoration.
