Optimizing Communication in Healthcare: Keys to Efficient Teamwork

Ibarra, Torquati and Ponti

Health Leadership and Quality of Life, 2023, vol. 2, 525

Abstract: Introduction: Internal communication in healthcare institutions is essential to ensure quality of care, operational efficiency and the well-being of work teams. However, its deficiency has been linked to problems such as misinformation, low productivity and increased work stress. Previous studies have highlighted the need to align internal communication with organizational objectives to improve work climate and interpersonal relationships. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of tools such as SBAR and IPASS to structure communication, minimizing errors and promoting continuity of care was evidenced. Development: The review identified that many institutions lacked formal communication strategies, which resulted in conflicts, rumors and demotivation. In the nursing field, this problem had a direct impact on the coordination and quality of the service. Tools such as those mentioned above, together with leadership training and the use of technology, proved to be effective in structuring communication processes, improving the transfer of information and fostering a collaborative environment. In addition, elements such as active listening and conflict resolution emerged as key skills to optimize interaction among professionals.
