Abstract:
Arterial hypertension is a global health problem and a key factor in the onset of cardiovascular diseases, responsible for a large number of premature deaths. This study investigated the risk factors associated with arterial hypertension in adults from the Municipal township of Santa Ana canton, Ecuador. A descriptive observational cross-sectional study was conducted with 20 adult participants with a previously confirmed diagnosis. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on family history, diet, and physical activity. The results showed that 55% had a family history of hypertension, 30% consumed an unhealthy diet, and 50% did not engage in physical activity. The study concludes that the prevalence of arterial hypertension is strongly related to genetic and lifestyle factors, emphasizing the need to improve eating habits, increase physical activity in the population, and reduce the associated risk factors.
