Abstract: Ozone is a gas present in the atmosphere that protects living organisms from ultraviolet rays and helps clean the environment. In dentistry, as in other branches of medicine, ozone has numerous functions. Ozone consist of three oxygen atoms that has had positive effects in any of its presentations, either gaseous, oil or in aqueous form over bacteria with high or low pathogenicity, results in a decrease in number and reproductive or progressive capacity. Ozone therapy is a novel, non-traumatic, painless and non-invasive alternative to prevent and treat conditions. Currently, it is considered a complementary treatment in oral care. Ozone therapy has become an adjuvant treatment in the control and treatment of dental, dermatological and cosmetic diseases, among other things due to its antimicrobial capacity.
